Dearest Father in Heaven,
Bless this child and bless this day
Of new beginnings.
Smile upon this child
And surround this child, Lord,
With the soft mantle of your love.
Teach this child to follow in your footsteps,
And to live life in the ways of
Love, faith, hope and charity.
–an Irish Blessing

SUNDAY SCHOOL AND SECOND HOUR (Adult Education) will begin on September 19.

SUNDAY SCHOOL: Sunday School starts on September 19th!  Did you know there are only fourteen Sundays between then and Christmas? The Sunday School is in need of volunteers to help out during each of those fourteen Sundays.  Each volunteer would need to commit to just two weeks of teaching. We have new curriculum that is very user friendly and requires minimal preparation. There are 2 classes- a younger class for children age 6 and under with 2 to 5 children attending each week, and an older class with 2 to 4 children each week.  Come join us as we minister to the youngest in our midst. Please contact Kate Simon (katie.r.simon@gmail.com 609-218-0277) or Pastor Jeff.

NEW FENCE: Thanks to Collin (and helpers) for building a new fence around the playground area. This was Collin's Eagle Scout project.

FIFTH SUNDAY HYMN SING: As is now our custom at CC, we try to have an alternative worship format on fifth Sundays. On August 29, we're having a hymn sing --- so come prepared to sing some of your favorite oldies. Scroll down and you’ll find a list of songs and hymns. Think about your favorites. On Sunday, during worship, you’ll have an opportunity to request one (or more) of your favorites — and, we’d like you to tell us why the song has special meaning for you.

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE HODGES Family on the birth of Autumn, born August 25.

OUTREACH MINISTRY OFFERING: The OMO for July and August will go to the establishment of a Social Action discretionary fund. The past few years, natural disasters, sudden human-caused catastrophes, and a number of more localized emergencies have occurred and demanded our attention. The Social Action Committee would like to build a fund that allows Christ Congregation to respond to these occurrences. Of course, the BP oil spill is on our minds this year, and we will likely look into partnering with organizations we have worked with in the past to help address the needs as they continue to arise.

FROM JUDY: The camp where I work, and Julia attends, is looking for a bone marrow match for a four year old — her name is Charlotte. There are no matches for her within her family nor on the National Registry, probably because she is part Armenian. If you would like to become a bone marrow donor, the process involves only a consent form and a cheek swab test, and then volunteers are added to the national registry, not just for Charlotte.  The camp will also be holding a walk-a-thon to raise money since it costs about $90 per donor to process and maintain the National Bone Marrow Donor Program Registry.  If you are willing to be tested, please call 215-752-1987 to set up an appointment.  If you would like to contribute money, please email judy.hodges@yahoo.com.

Lots happening on June 27. First of all it’s Youth Sunday and our youth will greet and read scripture and sing. Then we’ll recognize our wonderful Sunday school teachers and give thanks for their ministry to our youth. It’s also a day to recognize our graduates — this year from high school and college: Alex, Bethany, Brad and David. Then, sadly, we’ll say Godspeed to our wonderful friends – the Arp family. Please plan to attend.

CONGREGATIONAL MEETING: June 27, following worship.

A DAILY REFLECTION:
In God's loving presence I unwind the past day,
starting from now and looking back, moment by moment.
I gather in all the goodness and light, in gratitude.
I attend to the shadows and what they say to me, seeking healing, courage, forgiveness.

Meet our new seminarian: This Sunday, Anthony Livolsi will begin his field education work with us at CC.
Anthony writes:
Warmest greetings to all of you at Christ Congregation!
My name is Anthony Livolsi and I have the good fortune to serve alongside you all in ministry as a seminarian-in-residence. I am — and this assumes my math is correct! — exactly halfway through the M.Div program at Princeton Seminary and loving every minute of it. Born in Jersey but bred in Phoenix, being back East feels like a homecoming of sorts; I'll take the romance of a snowstorm over dusty, desert monsoons any day! When I'm not reading for class, you can likely find me… reading for leisure. (Sickening, I know.) I also enjoy distance running, people-watching at Small World Coffee, and most baked goods.
I look forward to meeting you all personally in the days ahead!
Anthony
