A New Outreach Project
The Board of Social Action and Outreach and the Board of Christian Education have launched the Penny Project at Christ Congregation. The purpose of the project is to raise awareness of the extent of child poverty throughout the United States, and support for programs and ministries responding to the needs of children in poverty in our area. The goal is to raise 14 million pennies nationwide by next April, representing the number of children living in poverty in the United States. There will be a container available in the fireplace room during refreshment time for folks to contribute their pennies (other coins are also gratefully accepted). All funds raised will be used to support local ministries that involve children in need.
We help support-encourage a young lady from the African nation of Togo by the name of Magnoudewa. She will celebrate her 12th birthday at the end of December. Recently we received a letter from her, written in French. We want to encourage people to write letters in return, especially our youngsters.
Blessings,
Jeff
